Built for the rooms where little ones spend the day

In a childcare center, small hands reach every surface below the height of an adult’s waist, and much of the day happens down there. Tabletops hold snacks and painting in the same hour, cubbies fill with jackets and lunch bags, and floors serve as both play mat and story corner. When the final family heads for the parking lot, every room is due for a complete reset.

Sage Commercial Cleaning sets up evening and weekend visits for infant and toddler programs, preschools, before- and after-school programs and multi-room daycare centers. Your director picks the rooms and the frequency, and the crew works through that list once the building is empty.

Classrooms, cubbies and learning centers

Each classroom starts with the surfaces children use most. Low tables and chairs are wiped from top to legs, sinks and counters at child height are cleaned, and door handles, light switches and cabinet pulls are wiped at both adult and kid height. Trash and diaper-room bins are emptied and relined, and recycling is carried out.

Cubby shelves are wiped around whatever belongs to each child, so names, artwork and spare clothes stay exactly where families and teachers left them. Block corners, dramatic-play areas and reading nooks get the shelving and floor beneath them cleaned, and shared hard toys can be wiped on the nights your teachers set aside for it.

Floors finish the room. Vinyl and tile get a sweep and then a damp mop, working toward the doorway, and classroom carpet and circle-time rugs are vacuumed edge to edge, with spot treatment for paint, juice and playdough marks.

Nap rooms and infant areas

Nap rooms and infant rooms ask for a gentler routine. Crews wipe crib rails and mat storage shelves on the schedule your staff chooses, clean rocking chairs and changing-table surfaces, and dust window sills and blinds where soft light filters in during quiet time. Floors in these rooms are vacuumed and mopped with care around stacked cots and mats.

Bottle-prep counters, small sinks and the refrigerator handles in infant rooms are wiped as part of the visit, and the routine follows whatever cleaning and sanitizing steps your center already posts on the wall.

Child-size restrooms and diapering stations

Low toilets, short sinks and step stools mean restrooms in a daycare get cleaned at a different height than an office restroom. Fixtures, partitions, faucets and the floor around each toilet are scrubbed every visit, and diapering stations get their surfaces and the wall behind them wiped down.

Soap, towels, tissue and bin liners are topped off with stock we bring or with the cases in your own storeroom, so the morning staff never opens a restroom to an empty dispenser. Our janitorial supplies service can keep those items stocked and the dispensers installed.

Front entrance, hallways and staff spaces

Parents form their first impression at the front entrance, often while juggling a car seat and a backpack. The sign-in counter and tablet, the entry glass, the bench by the door and the parent board are cleaned each visit. The crew also runs a vacuum over the entry mats, which catch the sand and mulch that small shoes carry in from the play yard.

The director’s office, the teacher workroom and the staff break room are cleaned the way any office would be, with desks wiped, the microwave and counters cleaned and bins emptied. A larger center with a kitchen for meals can add that room’s counters, sink and floor to the visit list.

Hallways tie the building together. Coat hooks, drinking fountains, stroller parking and the handrails along any ramp are wiped as the crew moves between rooms, and the hallway floor gets a dust mop and a damp mop once every classroom is finished, so the last pass leaves no tracks behind.

Some centers want a hand while children are in the building, especially in programs with long hours or several classroom wings. A day porter can check and refill restrooms in the middle of the day, empty overflowing diaper-room bins, clean up a lunchtime spill in the hallway and keep the entry glass clear before afternoon pickup. The porter works in common areas and keeps to the routes your staff sets, leaving classrooms to the teachers until the evening crew arrives.

Summer weeks, breaks and opening day

Holiday closures and the week between a spring session and summer camp leave rooms empty long enough for bigger floor work. Classroom carpet is a good candidate for a deep extraction pass during those quiet days (see commercial carpet cleaning), while VCT in the art room and hallways gets its old wax stripped and new finish laid down, with time to dry before children return.

Outside, the entry walk and the hardscape around the play-yard gate can be refreshed through pressure washing while the center is closed. A brand-new center or a remodeled classroom wing gets a construction cleanup before furniture and toys go in, so opening day starts in a finished room.

Storefront centers, church classrooms and purpose-built daycares

Childcare buildings across our regions come in many forms: storefront and converted-office centers in the Bay Area, preschool classrooms inside church buildings, centers on office and business park campuses, and purpose-built daycares with fenced play yards in growing suburbs from Elk Grove and Roseville to Fresno and Sparks. Each layout calls for its own checklist, built around the rooms you have and the hours your doors are open.

Background checks clear each crew member in advance, and supervisor inspections walk the classrooms, restrooms and lobby to confirm nothing on the director’s list was missed. Send us your room count, your closing time and any posted procedures, and we will put a written plan and price in your hands. Tell us about your center.

A few useful answers

Common questions.

When does the cleaning crew come in?

After the last child has gone home, on the evenings you choose, with weekend visits available. Centers with extended hours can schedule the crew for late evening or early morning before staff arrive.

How are cleaners screened for a childcare building?

Every person on the crew is background-checked ahead of their first shift in your center. Supervisors also come through for quality inspections, comparing each room with your approved checklist.

Will cleaners move children's belongings or classroom displays?

No. Cubby contents, artwork, name tags and teaching displays stay where they are. Crews clean around them and leave the room set up the way teachers left it.

Can you clean toys and classroom materials?

Shared hard-surface toys, tables and learning materials can be wiped on the nights your staff picks. Tell us which bins and shelves to include, and they go on the visit checklist.

Our new location opens next month. What cleaning does it need first?

A construction cleanup comes first, lifting builder dust off walls, windows, fixtures and floors once the contractors are out. After that, the recurring evening schedule can begin whenever your doors open to families.
